What's Mine Is Yours

This is not the greatest picture of Emersyn, but I love it because she is showing me her pretty pink nails.  She has been showing them off for a couple of days now--she is pretty proud.  The picture also gives you a great view of my pantry--yep--not clean:)  Anyway....yesterday I spent a little time with my sewing machine.  It has not gotten a lot of attention lately so I cranked it up and did a little re-fashion.

I bought this shirt last year because it was kind of like a shirt that I already had.  There was only ONE big problem....it was not really at all like the shirt that I loved.  So I wore it once and hated it and let it sit around and keep the cute shirt company for a while and then decided to give it a new life.

I liked the shape of this dress that Em already has and so I cut out a similar shape and gave it a try.  It really did not turn out like this dress at all, but that was the beginning plan....sometimes things change:)

Em liked it, but was NOT interested in having her picture taken.

Like REALLY DID NOT WANT HER PICTURE TAKEN!!!

I like that it is more of a shirt than a dress.  I should have made it a little wider because without the elastic waist of the example dress, it is not OVER big.  I guess it will fit her for a while and then maybe it will fit as a dress and then a shirt for another cute little Perkins---SOMEDAY!!

Mini Me!!

Saturday Emersyn and I skipped out on the yard sales (even though they were calling our names) and stayed home to work on the potty training thing. She is getting better and we have good times and bad times.  Yesterday she stayed dry at church and while playing outside at my Grandma's house all day. She seems to do fine UNLESS mommy forgets to take her quick enough.  I guess mommy needs to get potty trained:)
Anyway--Em and I worked on pottying and played and played and played.  AND I had a realization moment. Emersyn REALLY does notice what I am doing and tries to be like me.  Scary thought.  I guess I need to work on myself so that she turns out JUST RIGHT!!!  This picture is of us in her playhouse.  I sat down and got comfortable and the next thing I knew.....a copycat.  Time to clean up my act for MINI ME!

Grandpa Johnny stopped by and gave Em a Tonka Truck (he went yard sale-ing for us).  She really liked to Dump Dump.

I made this Steelers dress last weekend at craft day.  I got to spend last Satuday with the Koch Ladies making fun stuff.  This was the result.  I got the Steeler onsie at a yard sale, but it was a 0-3 month size.  I had planned on just keeping it around for another kid, but then Em tried it on one day and it fit.  SOOO I decided that I would make her something STEELERS.  NOT because I am such a football fan (I kinda hate it), but because my MIL LOVES the Steelers (only slightly less than she loves Emersyn--ha ha).

I knew it would make her happy to see her little girlie all Steelered out.

If you look too close you can see that there is a weird problem with the shoulders and neck.  I had a problem because the original neck was the kind that overlaps on the sides, and it came undone while I was sewing and cutting.  SOOO I sewed it back together AND it was too small.  Emersyn was kinda stuck in the dress when we tried to take it off.  SOOOO as much as I love the idea of this dress, I will have to try again.  I don't know if this one can be saved, but I do have another onsie(2 for 1 at the yard sale)---it might be time to admit defeat on THIS one.

Yesterday we went to Grandma June's house.  Jenny and Ryan were there doing some yard work for Grandma and Jen brought out Creete's old tri-cycle.  I love the helmet--she looks like a mushroom head:)  Her dress was another craft day creation.  I used 3 handkies from Wal Mart.  I sewed two together and added elastic to make the dress.  Then cut up another one to make the straps. I used elastic in the straps too to keep them up.
I also made a little tie in the back so that it didn't look like such a Moo Moo.
And because I can't stop making rosettes, made two little matching ones and hooked them to some hair clips.  THEN I forgot to have her wear the clippies--I swear my brain no longer works right.
She had a blast out at Grandma's with Creete.  They dug in the dirt for hours.  This was the pose that Creete did EVERY time I tried to take a picture--not sure why---I guess that is the 4 year old pose.
And of course she suckered her daddy into pushing her around on her new bike.
I love this picture.  It just shows perfectly how it works with those 2.  He is pretty much her Play Slave:)  I had a great weekend with my Mini Me and I am hoping that we can leave our potty house this week and not be tied to the toilet ♥

Whippin' it on up!!

SOOOOO I have been back at the sleeve shortening.  I cannot stop.  I want spring clothes, but all I have are winter clothes, so I got out the scissors.  I am also ALWAYS in need of church clothes.  I can NEVER find anything I really like for church, so I just wear my jean skirt EVERY week.  So I grabbed another sweater and gave it a little POP!!!
I started with this plain blue sweater.  I liked it ok, but I have another one that is the same color that I like a lot better.  So I the same process as I used HERE I shortened the sleeves.  The only difference is that I sewed with the raw edge on the indside of the sweater instead of on the outside (like I did on the sweatshirt).
I wanted this to match my favorite skirt (which is pink and blue), so I used an old t-shirt and made some pink rosettes.  You can kinda see the hot glue in the picture, but not in real life (I hope).

Kinda fun.  I glued the flowers to some matching felt and the glued safety pins to the back.  I did not want to sew the flowers onto the sweater because I am not interested in a one trick pony.  I want this sweater to go with EVERYTHING!!  But for THIS week, here is the outfit.
By the way...I was SOOOO happy to be able to wear my hot pink shoes.  They are my wedding shoes and needed a new outfit.  LOVE THEM!!!!  They cost more than my wedding dress, so I am glad I got to wear them more than once:)
Because I became slightly obsessed with fabric rosettes, I made another fabric wrapped bracelet.  I just ripped a strip of fabric (leftover from a dress I made for Em), and wrapped it around a a cheap "livestrong" type bracelet.  And then I hot-glued on 3 fabric rosettes.  LOVE IT!!!
LOVE IT ♥♥

Oh Happy Day!!

Today there were many moments that just made my little heart happy.  Here are a few....

1.  Waking up next to Emersyn who rolled over and told me "Mommy I happy now."  Hmmm I would really like to break her of the habit of sleeping with me after about 5 in the morning, but darn it---she is so cute and sweet in the morning.

2. Going to the library, park, and McDonalds playland with Amy, Delaney, and Baby Colton.  Today the girls played good together so Amy and I ACTUALLY got to have a conversation.  Sometimes we spend an entire day together and never finish a complete sentence without being interrupted (by crying, ouchies, fights, diaper changes--you name it).  Having an adult conversation today was HAPPY-NESS!!

3. Emersyn stayed dry today while we were out and about (except for one fluke--she peed her pants in the bathroom stall, but I don't count that).  She is working really hard at this whole potty training thing--YAY!!!

4.  Sunshine--no explanation needed here right????

5. And the big happy moment of the day....Em falling into my toilet.  YEP--all the way in.  While I was in the shower she showed up in my bathroom, stripped down, and tried to go potty alone.  She did fine until the end.  She tried to wipe and fell right into the hole--sad YES--Funny HECK YES!!!  After the initial freak out I got her out and cleaned off and then sat on the bathroom floor and laughed myself silly.   She just kept saying---I fall in the toy-yet.  Maybe you had to be there...

I also had a few moments that made me want to shut my head in the dryer.
1. 2 poopy pairs of little Elmo undies.  Yikes all mighty what a gross situation.

2.  Ok so the poop was the real low point.  I guess you can call this day a SUCCESS ♥

Misc. Mish Mash

Today was a stay at home day.  Emersyn and I hung out and played and enjoyed the good weather.  Before we headed outside for HOURS I managed to accomplish a few crafties.  I have decided that this month is a FINISH it month.  I have sooooo many projects swimming around in my head and so many supplies sitting and waiting to be used.  SOOO I am gonna try to use what I have and finish some projects before I buy anything new---We shall see:)   Today I cut into my stash of felt and made a few hair clips for Emersyn.

I improvised on the red and white and the purple round flowers---kind of a make it up as you go thing.  I like the purple the most, the red is still growing on me.
Then for the red dots---Em has a red and white polka dot dress that needed some fancy nancy style.  I just cut different size circles (sort of) and hot glued them together.
For the purple and green flowers I used this tutorial.  I need a few more practices, but I liked the idea of them.  They were a little too much work though for me.  I am not sure if I have it in me JUST for some bows:)
I also tried to make Emersyn a sticker book using THIS tutorial.  Tried is the important word here.  The tutorial was good, the idea was great, there were just tooooo darn many steps.  I am too lazy for SOOOO much effort.  I followed most of the instructions and it just kept getting worse and worse.  If anybody tries the tutorial here is my recommendation....cover ALL of the pages with scrapbook paper.  I only did the cover and then when I got all of the freezer paper on I could see ALL of the pictures through the paper--really ugly and tacky.  I didn't even finish it because I did not want to waste my ribbon.  SOOOO I thought of an easier way to do it with fewer steps.  I decided to just cut freezer paper the size I wanted and folded it together like a book.  I took the non-slick sides and glued them together so that ALL of the pages were slick.  Then I stapled along the spine to hook it together and covered the staples with ribbon---hot glued it on there.  THEN after all that I tried to burn the ends of the ribbon with a lighter and SLIGHTLY lit the whole book on fire--live and learn right???  Here is the finished product.

Not as sturdy or as cute as the tutorial, but Em is more than happy with it.  I really wanted to make a cute cover, but I could not fight Emersyn off once she realized stickers were involved:)  Oh well it is what it is I guess!!!  AND it really does work.  The stickers come right off and go right back on---for HOURS:)
Next I have a few pictures that were being held hostage on my camara.  They finally decided to come off and play, so here they are.  They are a few leftover birthday pictures.  First off--Emersyn's party decorations.  I HAD to share my great find.  I was in search of cheap easy cute decorations for Chuck E Cheese and that is EXACTLY what I found.  I came across this great book at WalMart.

It was a book of punch out decorations.  AND it only cost 8 bucks.  SOOO for 8 dollars I got name cards, cup tags, placemats,  a tablerunner, lots of cutouts, confetti, fork decorations, a box, napkin rings, hmmmm tons of cute stuff.  The only bad part was punching them all out---probably took me about an hour.  BUT for 8 bucks---I had nothing else to do:)

As I punched I set up the stuff on the table.  This was only part of the stuff because the book came with stuff for 12 people.  Even if you are not having a party I thought this would be fun stuff to have around the house to play with---they had all different types too--Cars, Disney Princess, Spiderman,....not sure what else.
You cannot take cups to Chuck E Cheese (Heaven forbid you not pay 2 bucks for a pop), so I had all of the cup tags left over.  I cannot stand to waste anything, so I cut them up and used them for cupcake decorations.  I cut the bottoms off and then glued two (wrong sides) together.  Then I slipped a toothpick between the 2 layers.
I did not have as many as I wanted so I also cut green scrapbook paper the same size and put Tinkerbell stickers on them.  Worked like a charm and did not cost me anything---kinda cute too.

I found another fun new thing while planning this party---canned frosting.  Think of canned whip cream, but FROSTING.  It came out in pretty little scallops and was kinda fun to decorate with.  The only problem was it ran out too quick, but it WAS fun while it lasted.
Well that was a less than thrilling post, but hey that is my life right?  Some days are just a little more THE NANNY than DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES.
